This is a public seminar which explores the findings of an EU-funded project (H2020 RISE) in which makerspaces for young children have been introduced in seven EU countries and the USA in both formal and non-formal educational settings.

Makerspaces are spaces that enable participants to create a range of artefacts using specialist tools and resources, such as electronics, laser cutters and 3D printers.

There has been an interest in recent years in the 'Maker' movement, which celebrates tinkering, hacking and D-I-Y projects. However, the needs of children aged under eight have not been considered widely in this work, an issue which MakEY aims to address.

In the seminar, you will find out about the main findings from the project to date, hear from an invited panel of international scholars from Australia, Canada, Colombia, Holland and the USA on their related work, and engage in an open plenary session in which some of the issues raised in this work can be discussed.

The event will be in English and has the form of a lecture, a panel discussion and a poster session. The poster session will demonstrate practical examples and the various projects being carried out at present.
