Amanda Møller Rasmussen – New Ph.D. at the Department for Anthropology

With a background in African Studies and Social Anthropology of Development from Copenhagen University and School of Oriental and African Studies, respectively, Amanda has started her Ph.D. at the Department for Anthropology in September.

Under the tentative working title “Give an NGO a fisher, and you finance it for a day. Give an NGO a ‘global fear of piracy,’ and you finance it for a lifetime?” Amanda’s research project sets out to investigate the local, national, and global implications of current trends of linking development, market and security logics through fishery development projects and security interventions in Djibouti. She plans to undertake 12 months of fieldwork along the Djibouti coast.
