New agreement to host an Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) Chair at Aarhus University

Aarhus University and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) agree to support an ICCR Chair at Aarhus University. Under this agreement visiting professors will join AU for a period of up to six months and will contribute to the academic activities at the university - particularly through teaching in the newly established Master in Asian Studies with the specialization India and South Asia

A new Master’s degree programme at Aarhus University in Asian Studies (India and South Asia Studies) has recently been developed to equip students with deep insight into and cross-disciplinary understanding of India and the rapidly changing society and culture of South Asia. And last week, a new agreement added new impetus to the university’s strategic focus on the world’s largest democracy and most populous region.

With the new agreement, Aarhus University and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) agree to support an ICCR Chair at Aarhus University. Each individual appointment of a visiting professor to the Chair will be for a period of up to six months, and the Chair will be obliged to teach at the new Masters’ programme and to take active part in the academic activities at the university.

The new agreement is based on the experience of a previous  agreement on hosting an ICCR Chair at Aarhus University, and ass. professor Uwe Skoda, who is chairperson of the Board of Contemporary India Study Centre Aarhus (CISCA), is very happy to continue the collaboration: “The agreement with ICCR is a recognition of the strong research environment at Aarhus University, and it provides us with a great opportunity to attract highly skilled and renowned scholars in the field of Indian studies”.

The new agreement was signed by  Rector Brian Bech Nielsen and the Ambassador of India to Denmark, Shri Niraj Srivastava, and will remain in force till the end of the academic year 2016-17.
