Shuhei Tashiro - New PhD Student at the Department of Anthropology

Shuhei Tashiro s enrolled as a PhD student from February 1st. He will be working on a project on the entanglements of marine conservation and livelihoods, scientific and indigenous knowledge, and global climate change and local politics in the Pacific.

I am Shuhei. It is a great thrill to be joining the School of Culture and Society as a PhD student in Anthropology. I spent my childhood in a suburban area in Japan but have since lived in Hong Kong, Singapore, the Netherlands, and Germany. For my MA thesis I looked into how precarious livelihoods and ecologies intersected at a human-ocean nexus in rural Japan. This has led me to design a PhD project on the entanglements of marine conservation and livelihoods, scientific and indigenous knowledge, and global climate change and local politics in the Pacific. I am looking forward to beginning my new chapter with you in Aarhus!
