Meet researchers from The Faculty of Arts at Internet Week Denmark

The digital world will be explored and challenged at Internet Week Denmark festival from Monday 9 May to Friday 13 May, 2016. Four researchers from the Faculty of Arts talk about the projects they will be presenting at the festival.

Everyone who is interested is invited to attend Internet Week Denmark and hear about exciting tendencies and specific issues related to digital technology and the internet. For instance, in connection with city development, data from digital wearables, adblocking and online gaming.

"Together with my colleagues from the Danish Smart City Network and the Danish Architecture Centre, I will be hosting a big smart city event. Alissa Chisholm from Alphabet (previously known as Google) will be talking about their new company, ‘Side Walk Labs’, which works with digital cities. From Medellín in Colombia we are going to hear the great story of ‘Cities for Life’ - where they have engaged citizens in a fantastic transformation of the city using digital technologies. In addition, Alain Heureux, who is a well-known entrepreneur and provocateur in the EU, will be there to challenge our views on innovation." - Martin Brynskov, associate professor, information studies

Who makes our future cities? At DOKK1, on Wednesday 11 May at 09.00-12.00

Update Denmark: Smarte løsninger fra land til by (Update Denmark: Smart solutions from country to city). At DOKK1, on Wednesday 11 May at 13.00-16.30

"I’ll be participating in a panel debate about adblocking - is it catastrophic or brilliant? The event is organised by a new network called Digital Society, which is a collaboration between students, researchers and companies. It’s concerned with addressing grand challenges in the digital society. The event will be moderated by Nikolaj Sonne from the DR programme ‘So Ein Ding’. I’ll also be taking part in an event called ‘Smartwatches’, which is about the data you get from wearables - the digital accessories we carry on the body. For instance, you can extract data from someone tracking their run, or from jewellery registering bio input from the body. We’re going to talk about who has access to the data, and how the data can or should be treated, in relation to research, companies and government agencies and institutions." - Anja Bechmann, associate professor, media studies

The ubiquitous internet & cross-device services: Facebook as data case, analytical algorithms and privacy (part of the event Smartwatches - Fitness gadgets or even research tools?) At DOKK1, on Tuesday 10 May at 13.15 (followed by a panel debate at 13.45)

Adblocking – katastrofalt eller genialt? At DOKK1, Friday 13 May at 12.30-15.30

"Our Master’s degree students from the course Computer Game Theory will be presenting their exam projects and telling us about their key findings and the most important perspectives on games, gameplay and game design. The audience will gain a deeper insight into game studies and how to understand and think about the phenomenon of games in relation to culture, education, business and society in general. Our Master’s degree students will be joining forces with House of Game//Play and CUDiM to present posters and computer games, and talk about gamification, World of Warcraft, EVE Online, D&D, Virtual Reality, and online games communities." - Claus Toft-Nielsen, assistant professor, CUDiM

House of Game//Play, CUDiM & Gametalk present Future Gamethinking At DOKK1, on Wednesday 11 May at 13.00-16.00

"Based on my current research project, "Making Sense of Data", I’ll be talking about the topic of "Emotional Data". In the talk I’ll discuss the opportunities and challenges we face when computers are able to identify our feelings and patterns of reaction. For instance, the 'digital assistants' in our smartphones will soon be able to predict our needs by simply analysing sound and expression in our voice when we ask for directions or search for information about a product. What impact will this have? What influence will it have on our social life and communication habits, if our choice of friends is automatically guided by complex algorithms that assess who we feel most comfortable with? In the talk I’ll give examples of new research projects and creative experiments within the field of emotional data." - Thomas Bjørnsten, postdoc, aesthetics and culture

How are you feeling [1/0] - a talk on emotional data. At DOKK1, on Thursday 12 May at 13.00-14.00
