TEXT Talk by David Mimno
David Mimno, professor and chair of the department of Information Science at Cornell University, will give an online talk
His talk is titled: Crossing the room to crossing the world: Character movement annotation at scale
Abstract: Annotation in literature has traditionally relied either on complex human labeling at small scale or shallow computational labeling at large scale. With LLMs, we are increasingly able to push out the boundary towards subtle, structured annotations at large scale. In this presentation, we will discuss some initial results in identifying physically grounded language. We are currently building a database of every physical character movement in ten-thousand-volume corpora.
