Code of Conduct 

Expected behaviours 

We are dedicated to providing a welcoming and supportive environment for all people, regardless of background or identity. By working in CORE Collective, collaborating with us, participating in events organised by us, or using a platform developed or maintained by CORE Collective, you agree to abide by CORE Collective’s Code of Conduct and accept the procedures by which any Code of Conduct incidents are resolved. Any form of behaviour intended to exclude, intimidate, or cause discomfort constitutes a violation of the Code of Conduct. 

To foster a positive and professional research and learning environment, we encourage the following kinds of behaviour across all platforms and events: 

  • Use welcoming and inclusive language 

  • Be respectful of different viewpoints and experiences 

  • Gracefully accept constructive criticism 

  • Focus on what is best for everyone 

  • Show courtesy and respect towards other people, irrespective of position or role 

Offensive behaviours 

Offensive behaviours include, but are not limited to: 

  • Written or verbal comments which have the effect of excluding people on the basis of membership of any specific group 

  • Causing someone to fear for their safety, such as through stalking, following, or intimidation 

  • Violent threats or language directed against another person 

  • The display of sexual or violent images 

  • Unwelcome sexual attention 

  • Non-consensual or unwelcome physical contact 

  • Sustained disruption of talks, events, or communications 

  • Insults or put-downs 

  • Sexist, racist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist, or exclusionary jokes 

  • Excessive swearing 

  • Incitement to violence, suicide, or self-harm 

  • Continuing to initiate interaction (including photography or recording) with someone after being asked to stop 

  • Publication of private communication without consent 

Consequences of a violation of the Code of Conduct 

Collaborators and participants who are asked to stop any inappropriate behaviour are expected to comply immediately. This also applies to any events and community spaces organised by CORE Collective. 

If you believe that the Code of Conduct has been violated during an event organised by CORE Collective, whether online or in person, please notify the host of the event. 

If a collaborator or participant engages in behaviour that violates this Code of Conduct, the CORE Collective team member(s) may warn the offender, ask them to leave the event, or set up an incident-specific report using Aarhus University’s normal incident reporting channels (i.e. by contacting an immediate manager or the manager’s manager). 

Aarhus University Whistleblower Scheme 

Aarhus University has introduced a Whistleblower Scheme intended to make it easier to report suspicions or knowledge of unlawful activities, serious incidents of bullying or harassment, or other serious offences without risk of reprisals. 

The scheme supplements the normal channels for reporting offences and concerns—for example, informing one’s manager or reporting suspicions of breaches of responsible conduct of research to the Research Practice Committee. 

Definitions 

Event: Any activity, whether online or in person, professional or social, hosted or managed by any of the centres affiliated with CORE Collective. 

Platform: Any research or educational tool or environment developed or maintained by any of the centres affiliated with CORE Collective. 

Employee: A person who is contractually employed by any of the centres affiliated with CORE Collective. 

Collaborator: A person who collaborates with any of the centres affiliated with CORE Collective (e.g. partners, affiliates, etc.). 

Participant: A person who takes part in an event organised by CORE Collective or any of the centres affiliated with CORE, but who is not a collaborator.
