Research within TEXT is conducted across four thematic work packages, each concerned with a different aspect of “LLM-hard” problems – that is, tasks and applications that LLMs are not designed for, and fundamentally struggle to perform at a human level.

Creativity and Co-Creation

TEXT will investigate how the understanding of context, history and creativity changes with automated writing and prescribe new practices for working with generative AI.

LLM-Hard Assessment

TEXT will develop techniques that evaluate LLM performance on complex real-world scenarios and fine-tune models that rely on alignment techniques in order to excel on these LLM-Hard problems

Addressing LLM-hard problems in practice

TEXT will refine the LLM-hard framework to explore text-based practices in education, business, and research. It will design and implement tools to address LLM-hard challenges in these areas.

LLMs in Language and Cognition Research

TEXT will examine LLM-hard problems in terms of the linguistic performance of LLMs, and implications for linguistics, cognitive science, literacy, and media analytics.
