Jakob studies the Nordic Manosphere both within digital spaces, and its offline presence. With a particular interest in how understanding the dynamics of these online spaces can help broaden our understanding of community building and propegation of theses communities.
Methodologically, he works through a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods, to understand how individual actions shape, and are shaped by, the wider group.
Jakob is investigating the Nordic manosphere, with a focus on Involuntary Celibates (Incels). Using a mixed methods approach, the project explores the size, scope, and capabilities of Nordic Incel communities. Rooted in Digital Science and Technology Studies (STS) and incorporating insights from Masculinity Studies, the aim is to deepen the understanding of the practices, core concepts, and lived experiences that define Incel identity in the Nordic context.
Jakob teaches in the Master's program of Information Studies and has supervised thesis projects. His teaching is rooted in dialogue and student reflection, with a focus on using digital methods in the humanities and exploring digitally radical communities.
