My name is Mette Lind Kusk, and from the 1^st of January 2023 and three years onwards I will be a post-doc in the collaborative research project Reorienting Integration, headed by Mikkel Rytter. During my Ph.D. studies, I conducted fieldwork in northern Uganda, focusing on how land conflicts were experienced and dealt with in a post-war context marked by poverty, legal plurality and various forms of uncertainty. In my recent work, I have moved towards the field of refugee studies and paid particular attention to young refugees’ experiences of life in exile and future orientations in a Danish context marked by outspoken temporality.

My post-doc project is called Dialogic Drawings: Exploring Refugee Children’s Orientations during Resettlement Processes. In the project, I will focus on the resettlement processes of children and youth, who come to Denmark as UN quota refugees from camps in Rwanda. Inspired by Sarah Ahmed (2006), I will explore how children orient themselves in relation to objects, places, and people in their new communities, and I will pay attention to their roles in the family over time. The project will make particular use of drawings created in dialogue with the children. To draw with the children will be a central fieldwork method, and the analytical and communicative potentials of such drawings will be explored in subsequent disseminations to stakeholders as well as scholars.
