February 7 sees an extended version of NAU’s approved breakfast meetings: Welcome to the half-day workshop “Scandinavia and Coloniality”. We will use the meeting to acquaint ourselves with the recent years’ research on Scandinavian colonial history, ongoing forms of colonialism, and thoughts on decolonization. We will start at 9:00 with coffee and croissants.
Short input presentations will given by:
- Ulla Angkjær Jørgensen (NTNU Trondheim and visiting scholar at AU) on Sápmi and colonization
- Carl Marklund (Södertörn) on ”Scandotropicalism”
- Laura McAtackney (AU) on the archeology of Danish colonialism in the US Virgin Islands
- Britta Timm Knudsen, Casper Andersen or Christoffer Kølvraa (AU, contributors to the Horizon 2020 project ECHOES) on concepts and keywords
Followed by an open discussion. Please bring your ideas and questions, or just come and listen.
Registration is not necessary, but please let us know if you would like to join us for lunch at 12:00.
You are also welcome to join us for an afternoon extension of the seminar: a lecture (in Swedish/Scandinavian) by Lill-Ann Körber (AU) in the Nordic Seminar series at the Department of Scandinavian Studies and Experience Economy on Scandinavian colonialism, exceptionalisms and entanglements: “Skandinavisk kolonialism: särvägar eller sammanflätningar?” (14:15-15:45, 1485:226)
