Working at CORE

CORE Collective is a shared environment of five research centres and around 60 colleagues, including technical, scientific, administrative staff, and student assistants. With more than 17 nationalities represented, we are an international workplace where English is our common language.

CORE Working Groups

Social Committee

Social Committee is a cross-centre initiative composed of one representative from each research centre within CORE. Together, the committee is responsible for planning and organizing social activities for the CORE Collective, with the aim of strengthening community and fostering connections across the organisation.

The committee arranges a range of recurring events, including Tea & Beer gatherings, the annual summer party, participation in DHL, and the Christmas party. In addition, members are encouraged to initiate new activities beyond these, such as board game nights, guided walks, quiz evenings, and other informal social events.

Membership of the Social Committee rotates, meaning that individuals typically serve on the committee for a period of approximately 6–12 months, ensuring both continuity and the inclusion of new ideas over time.

In planning activities, consideration is given to accessibility and inclusivity. Some events are free of charge, while others may involve a modest participation fee. Efforts are also made to ensure that events are accessible and welcoming to international colleagues, supporting an inclusive and diverse social environment within CORE.

Workplace wellbeing

The purpose of this working group is to strengthen workplace well-being in academia. Its activities rest on two complementary strands, bringing together both practical initiatives and longer-term structural efforts. The group plans and hosts events and workshops that support employees, particularly those in the early stages of their careers, in navigating the challenges of academic life, while also working to identify and advance structural opportunities that can improve well-being across the institution.

CORE Talks

CORE-Talks is an initiative dedicated to creating a dynamic forum for the exchange of research and ideas, fostering engaging and interdisciplinary discussions across fields connected to CORE. The talks are primarily aimed at researchers and affiliates within the CORE community, while also welcoming a broader academic audience.

The series brings together both in-house scholars and invited external speakers, including researchers from other departments at Aarhus University, as well as from national and international institutions. In addition, representatives from industry are regularly included to contribute practical perspectives and strengthen the link between academic research and real-world applications.

By facilitating these exchanges, CORE-Talks seeks to promote collaboration, inspire new perspectives, and support a vibrant research environment.
