Is the agent a mechanical marionette controlled by an underlying structure? Or is the agent rather a goal-oriented and rational actor? In this seminar we will approach such questions and thereby address a highly debated concept within social science. We will discuss agency from different theoretical and methodological angles, reading and analysing texts by scholars from different disciplines.
