Abstract:
I start this talk by postulating three different ways in which the relation between technology and cognitive processes can be considered: cognitive science supporting technology, technology supporting cognitive science and technology and cognitive science “dissolving” into each other.
From there, I prompt a debate on what can be considered today as “cognitive technology” by exploring the contemporary process of technological convergence and the hopes and ambitions of technologists and cognitive neuroscientists. I address particularly the Increasing interrelation between different branches of biology, medicine, cognitive neurosciences, biotechnology, and digital information technologies.
I conclude by opening a discussion on whether new models and conceptions of cognition, mind and consciousness are really addressing the ontological challenges of cognitive neuroscience and the emerging and related field of “neuroethics”.
