Abstract:
This dissertation looks into the field of non-formal Education for Sustainable Development as found by environmental NGO’s in the two unsustainable countries Denmark and South Korea. The analysis focus on how NGOs in both countries perceive the public as a learning entity  and how perceptions of the NGOs societal role influence their educational approaches.  The purpose is to understand the significance of working with the great ideals of sustainable development, deliberative democracy and people’s enlightenment in a daily setting where such ideals often fall short. Inspired by Jacques Lacan and Slavoj Žižek the study illustrates how it is possible to structure meaning in the contradictory everyday setting of elusive best practice and the unavoidable Bad practice.
