I am a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Theology and part of the ANINAN project, led by Prof. Elisa Uusimäki. My research is dedicated to Jewish culture in the Graeco-Roman world. The questions that drive my research are concerned with the impact of migration and human mobility on premodern forms of textual production, with a particular emphasis on Jewish literature written in Greek from the early Roman empire. My PhD thesis (Groningen, November 2020) examines autobiographical discourse in the Jewish War of Flavius Josephus, a Jewish historian who migrated to Rome in 71 CE and wrote 30 books in Greek there. For my postdoctoral research in Aarhus, I will continue to unravel the complex relationship between human mobility and textual production in ancient Jewish literature, but applied to a broader corpus and informed by modern intersectionality theory. In particular, I will explore narratives of contemporary travel of Jews in a wider Graeco-Roman context, in order to explore their value for our understanding of cultural constructions of human mobility and ancient realities and experiences of travel.
