Qiuyu Jiang - New postdoc at the Department of Global Studies
Qiuyu Jiang is affiliated CAS as postdoc from 15 August where she will be working with the project: The Enigma of Voluntary Compliance: How the Government Mobilises Citizens for Vaccination in China and Beyond.
Qiuyu will work as a postdoctoral fellow in China Studies at Aarhus University, for the project “The Enigma of Voluntary Compliance: How the Government Mobilises Citizens for Vaccination in China and Beyond.” (2022-2024)
Qiuyu received her Ph.D. in Anthropology from McGill University. Her research interests center around translational migration, Africa-China relations, and Contemporary China. Specifically, Her ongoing ethnographic research focuses on migrants and marginal groups in urban China, China’s social policies, and state-society relations. Her dissertation examines the attempts by the Chinese state to control, mediate, and regulate African migrants in Guangzhou, and how African migrants navigate such rigid immigration policies, including their creation of an ethical business code and their trans-ethnic and trans-national religious practice. Prior to joining this current position, Qiuyu worked as a research assistant at IT University of Copenhagen and as a researcher at the Canadian Institute of Social Inclusion for Immigrant Parents, a Montreal-based NGO.
